What is MotherBoard and how does it work?

Do you know what is MotherBoard? If you have ever opened your computer for repair or have seen the repair happening, then you must have known what the motherboard is. You must have seen that an equipment that connects all the equipment, which keeps all the components together, is called Motherboard. The motherboard allows all parts of a computer to receive power among themselves and to communicate.

What is MotherBoard
What is MotherBoard

If we talk about the last 20 years, we can see that the motherboard has set a lot of paths. There is a lot of difference between the earlier and today’s motherboards, like the first IBM PC motherboard has only one processor and few card slots. Users had to work only by installing Floppy Drive Controller and Memory. But nowadays, there have been many changes in the motherboard, in which a lot of features have been added, due to which the capabilities of the computer and the ability to upgrade are increased to a great extent. Today we will learn about this topic, what is motherboard and how it works. Then what is the delay? Let’s start.

What is motherboard?

A motherboard is the backbone of any computer , it is a link through which all the components are connected to each other, as if it is working as a hub to which other devices of the computer are connected. These come in different formations according to the needs of a user so that they can fit in their needs, budget and speeds.

Mainly, it is a PCB (Printed Circuit Board ) that holds various components of the computer so that the computer can be functional. Components like CPU, RAM, Hard Disk as well as TV Card, Graphics etc. All are first connected with MotherBoard. The motherboard itself enables this function to provide proper power supply to everyone so that they can do their work properly.

Functions of Motherboard:

  1. Component’s Hub: The  motherboard acts like a backbone of any computer in which other parts of the computer like CPU, RAM and Hard Disk are installed.
  2. Slots for External Peripherals:  Motherboard also acts as a platform, which makes it available to many Expansion Slots, so that we can install new device or interface here.
  3. Power Distribution: Power is supplied  to other components of the computer with the help of motherboard.
  4. Data Flow: The  motherboard acts like a communication hub by which all the peripherals are connected. Here the motherboard controls that all the Peripherals can properly communicate between themselves. And the motherboard manages the data traffic.
  5. BIOS:  Holds the Motherboard Read Only Memory, the BIOS that is needed to boot up the computer. So it shows that with the help of motherboard, computer starts.

How to choose MotherBoard

The motherboard is of no use alone, but it is very important to operate the computer. Its main job is to hold the Micro Chip of the computer along with it and connect all the other components together. All the things that help the computer to run or to increase its performance is either a part of the motherboard or it is connected to a slot or port with it.

The Shape and Layout of the motherboard is called the Form Factor. With the help of this Form Factor, it is decided how to design the motherboard. By the way, there are many specific Form Factors by which standard motherboards of different types are used.

If seen, there are many types of motherboard, such a variation is because its design, cases, power supply and size are made according to the requirement.

A motherboard that makes a specific manufacturer may support a single variety of CPU and some memory. For this reason, the selection of motherboard should be done after careful consideration, not all motherboards support all types of components. This is why choosing the right motherboard is very important. That is why I have mentioned some important things below so that it gives you some idea for its right choice.

1. Processors

One very important feature of the motherboard is the socket that holds the CPU. Different sockets connect to different boards and not all Processor Pins are the same. From this socket only, it will be known that which mother model will have Processor fit in this motherboard.

2. Memory

What type of motherboard are you using, it shows how much amount and what format of RAM you can use. Normally the memory of Boards is limited to how much amount of RAM it supports. But it would be best if you take a board that supports more RAM than you need so that you can upgrade it later.

3. Form Factor

The layout of any motherboard is called a Form Factor. The same form factor shows where to place various components and this shows the design of that computer. Although there are many standards of the Form Factor, but it is used according to the user’s requirement.

4. Chipset

A Chipset is the middle man of any computer, with the help of which there is a transfer of data inside the computer from one part to another. It is like a Spine that connects the Microprocessor to other parts of the computer. A computer has two parts, one is Northbridge and the other is SouthBridge. All parts of the computer communicate with the CPU with the help of this Chipset.

5. BUS

A bus means a path in a computer through which a component in any circuit connects with another. The speed of any BUS is measured in MegaHertz (MHz) . Speed itself shows how much data can pass through that bus. The better the bus, the sooner and more data can be transferred, that’s why better calculation.

6. Expansions Slots and Connectors

Expansion slots are hardwired options so that we can add additional components to the motherboard. If you want to upgrade your system in future, then you must think about it. The more components you have, the more components you can attach.

Keeping all these things in mind, you can choose a motherboard. That is why I request you that before buying any motherboard, you should know very well what your requirement is. According to your requirement, you should buy anything.

Slowly the motherboard is becoming even better and fast, along with its cost is also being reduced. As the world is changing, the needs of people are also changing, that is why the Shape, Size and Speed of Motherboard are changing. The day is not far when we can make Motherboard according to our mind.

I sincerely hope that I have given you complete information about what is Motherboard and how it works and I hope that you guys have understood about the component of this computer. . I request all of you readers that you too should share this information in your neighborhood, relatives and friends, so that there will be awareness among us and it will benefit everyone. I need your support so that I can convey more new information to you.

It has always been my endeavor that I always help my readers or readers from all sides, if you people have any doubt of any kind, then you can ask me irresponsibly. I will definitely try to solve those Doubts. If you like this article, what is the motherboard and how it works, then tell us by writing a comment so that we too have a chance to learn something from your ideas and improve something.
