The minimum age limit for IAS is 21 years while the maximum age limit has been set differently for each category. In addition, some special classes are exempted from this.

How to become IAS
To become an IAS you have to pass the IAS exam. This exam takes place in 3 stages, which you have been told below, and the

- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
Preliminary examination is the 1st stage of IAS, after clearing the candidates can appear in its 2nd stage i.e. main examination. According to the new examination system in the civil examination conducted by UPSC, at present the preliminary examination consists of two papers General Ability Test and Civil Service Aptitude Test. These are in the form of qualifying papers. Both the papers are of 200 – 200 marks.

The second phase of the Civil Services Examination is the Main Examination. Candidates can take the main examination only after passing the preliminary examination. For this, candidates are given about 2 to 3 months time. Unlike the preliminary examination which is completely based on the objective question (OBJECTIVE), the main exam asks descriptive questions with different word limits, in which we have to write the answer in our own words.
